Thank you visiting our new home. We trust that you will find all the infomation made available relevant and accurate..Vibe fm has
been granted a four year licence on community sound broadcast by the Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA) to
broadcast on 94.7 frequency. The station has been licensed at Kwa-Mashu but it will cover the other areas as shown on the coverage
map. This licence has been granted to us with a special condition that we provide development communication for INK area as the brief
for the call for licence application by the ICASA called for geographical initiatives.
Vibe fm will form an integral part of the INK
urban renewal programme by providing a communication link to the grass roots level of the community. As an institution, this project
aims not only to be a tool for information dissemination but also as a tool for change. As the INK was named a presidential node for
development, there is a lot of room and need for communication development. All our programmes are aligned with the vision and goals
of the INK ABM and the greater national agenda.
The station will give the ordinary citizens an opportunity to be exposed to the work
of the media and to participate in the development of their own communities. We aim to involve ordinary citizens in the governance,
programming, news and all spheres of this initiative; therefore we are participating in reshaping this country’s history. The main
objectives for starting this radio station were to purify and implement a spirit of solidarity within the diverse communities and
to plant seed of tolerance amongst different opinions.
During this time of growth, Vibe fm Community Radio has been dependent on mainly
donor sources of funding. These have included airtime sales as well as programme sponsorship. The organization that contributed to
these projects were ; the South African Bureau of Standards who donated a computer system as well as Greater t Durban Community Foundation
in the at Centre Trust who provided the station with the broadcast venue. IYO was also practicum by the South African Human Right
Commission and the information obtained there was used for Vibe fm Humans Right Edutainment Broadcast from the period 18th March to
17th April 2009. MDDA funded the organization with start up capital.
